About Stonecoat

Wholly owned Australian Company
established in the year 2004

Stonecoat specialises in the manufacture and application of excellent quality products for the architectural and protective coatings market.

Protecting the surface from weathering elements that might cause irreparable damage to a building through penetration into the surface like smog, water or acid rains etc. is paramount and can only be achieved through a perfectly blended formulation of excellent raw materials that will convey to the finished product permanent characteristics such as flexibility, color fastness, body through colouring and water repellency.

Working Plan

Stonecoat Working Process

  • Mixing Stonecoat

Once mixed Stonecoat exhibits a white liquid appearance with the stone particles showing depending on colour, once cured it is a clear resin membrane.

  • Masking of the Surface

Fittings, frames and any feature not to be coated must be completely masked, whilst the bounced stone doesn’t adhere well it can be time consuming to remove.

  • Spray using Hopper Gun

Stonecoat for small or detailed areas, is best sprayed from a Hopper Gun, gravity fed and launched by the compressed air onto the work surface.

Frequently
Asked Questions

This section will provide you with information on how to use Stonecoat, as well as the benefits of this product.

  • Q. What is the composition of Stonecoat?

Stonecoat is a Poly Vinyl Alcohol (PVA) resin based coating with encapsulated natural stone grindings of marble and granites. The stone is graded, colour sorted and accurately sized and this is critical to performance and appearance. No pigments or fillers are added. Anti fungal agents are added to protect the wet product for shelf life and a dry fungal agent for the cured laminate.

  • Q. How to spray Stonecoat?

Stonecoat for small or detailed areas, is best sprayed from a Hopper Gun, gravity fed and launched by the compressed air onto the work surface. The aperture of the spray system significantly effects the outcome. Too small an opening will exclude stone and cause for more resin and Nozzle blocking will continuously occur. Too large an opening and a splatter will occur forming blobs on the work. However the application time is greatly improved as such a BALANCE must be maintained between quality flat finish and speed of application and best coverage rates. Depending on the hopper gun design 100 psi is a good starting pressure, Too high a pressure and the surface will be undulated by the air pressure and excessive bounce back of stone. Too little and the stone will not propel to the surface evenly or develop the membrane. Stonecoat is sprayed from approximately 400 mm from the surface and experimentation will quickly result in optimum distance. Too far and excessive resin lose and bounce back of stone is obvious, too close and a thick uncured matrix is deformed by the air pressure.

  • Q. Where to use Stonecoat?

Stonecoat will bond substantially to almost any substrate including metal castings, painted sheet metal, timber and manufactured boards, masonry panels and castings and foam boards. Particularly suited to lost formwork systems, as STONECOAT shrinks onto the surface for a tight bound adhesion. Gloss surfaces and plastic plumbing accept STONECOAT and this can allow for plumbing to be installed connected and coated with the wall surface application.
